Biographies:
Fred D Sheftell, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Medical Advisor Chair

        MAGNUM is fortunate to have a gifted and talented international leader in thefred sheftell Migraine and headache medical field as their Medical Advsor Chair, that of Fred D. Sheftell M.D., F.A.C.P.. Dr. Sheftell is currently director and founder of The New England Center for Headache located in Stamford, Connecticut and Associate Medical Director of the Headache In-Patient Unit at The Greenwich Hospital. He is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at New York Medical College. Dr. Sheftell received his MD degree from New York Medical College and completed his internship at Brookdale General Hospital in New York City. He served his residency at Metropolitan Hospital where he was also appointed chief resident. He was Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at McDonald Army Hospital from 1970-1972, where he was decorated by the United States Army for his contributions and efforts in drug and alcohol abuse.

        Dr. Sheftell is cited in Woodward and White's, "Best Doctors in America," a textbook identifying outstanding physicians in the United States, Castle and Connoly's, "Best Doctors New York Metro Area," and is listed in the first edition of "Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare (1998-1998)." Dr. Sheftell has co-authored six books with Dr. Rapoport on the subject of headache and contributed to numerous others. He is past course director for the American Association for the Study of Headache and has served on its Board of Directors. Dr. Sheftell has authored numerous medical articles and has done extensive research on the subject of headache. He has lectured widely throughout North and South America and Europe on many aspects of the subject of headache to medical groups, institutions, business leaders, and universities. He is a winner of the United Way's Silver Award, the National Migraine Foundation's Public Awareness Award and the American Council for Headache Education's Lifetime Achievement Award.

 
        He has been a featured guest on numerous national, regional and local broadcasts, including Nightline, Dateline NBC, National Public Radio, 20/20, Good Morning America, the Fox Network, CNN, the Today Show, and PBS' Innovations. He is editor of Seminars in Headache Management. He served on the editorial board and as a consultant to C. Everest Koop's Time-Life Medical vide series on migraine. Dr. Sheftell is the national president of the American Council for Headache Education (ACHE), general secretary of the International Headache Society's Education Committee and chair of the subcommittee for the World Headache Alliance.
